What does Avani mean?

What does Avani mean? 1000 250 Avani Counseling

The word “Avani” comes from one of the earliest known languages on earth, Sanskrit.  Spoken in ancient India – Sanskrit is an Indo-European language related to many worldwide languages spoken today. Avani means ‘the good earth’ in Sanskrit and represents nature, generosity, compassion, strength, life and resilience. Avani is also the namesake of Mona’s daughter – an aspiring zoologist with a deep love of nature and the interconnectedness of living beings.

Avani Counseling was inspired more than a decade ago when Mona first decided to pursue a more meaningful career path, connected to helping people live more satisfying and empowered lives. She saw a great need for the counseling field to diversify and to better reflect the clients needing mental health support – people from all stages of life, geographies, demographics and cultural backgrounds. She shares this vision with every member of the team, who each came to the counseling field through their own journeys with hardship and resilience.

Some of the values that Avani Counseling embodies include:

  • Compassion – our goal is to form a respectful and supportive relationship with each of our clients, to recognize and uphold their unique strengths, skills and values. We want our clients to feel seen and heard as individuals with something to offer the world.
  • Empowerment – by centering the knowledge of our clients as “experts in their own lives” we collaborate with and empower our clients to develop resiliency on their own terms. Sometimes this means redefining what success and happiness look like for them.
  • Hope – we have our ears tuned for the “bright spots” in our clients’ lives –  the stories of possibility and hope that reside amidst the stories of struggle. By keeping our focus on hope, we seek to walk alongside our clients towards new beginnings.

Our new brand incorporates the 4 elements of Air, Fire, Water and Earth. The stylized imagery offers multiple interpretations including a seed pod representing potential and possibility; a plant representing growth and transformation; and a feather representing movement and aspiration. We hope these are some of the outcomes of our therapeutic work with clients.

Avani Counseling reflects a shared commitment to helping the world become a better place – one client at a time. Through our telehealth practice, we are able to support clients anywhere in the state of California – particularly densely populated cities where waitlists for mental health appointments are long, and rural areas where there aren’t enough clinicians nearby. We’re also increasing access to therapy (and keeping our carbon footprint low) by serving clients right in the comfort and privacy of their homes. For those clients who prefer an in-person therapeutic experience, we offer in-person sessions a few days a week in San Diego.

We appreciate your trust in us over the years.

Warmly,
Mona, Candea, June, Melda, Jennifer, and Jenn
